Make It Your Own
“Make it your own” is one of the softer phrases in property listings, and one of the clearest signals that the home is not being sold on finish.
Usually, it means the current property is liveable or workable, but dated enough that the next owner is expected to update, personalise or improve it.
That can be appealing to the right buyer. Many people would rather choose their own finishes than pay for someone else’s renovation.
But it can also be a polite way of saying the property needs more work than the listing wants to dwell on.
The phrase is best understood as: this house may suit a buyer who sees possibility where others mainly see effort.

Often, yes — usually cosmetic work at minimum.
-
Not necessarily. It can simply mean the home is waiting for a more personal update.
